| The Barrett-Bateman Foundation
was created to serve the special needs in the local
community of those who might not otherwise gain attention or
assistance from other charitable agencies. Our main focus is
directed towards those organizations serving people
disadvantaged by poverty, homelessness and hunger. In
addition we are committed to assisting organizations that
aid families in distress, especially women seeking to
rebuild the spiritual foundation of their lives so as to
find new opportunities for themselves and their children.
Programs that offer opportunities to recover from addictive
behaviors are included in our focus. While not an
educational Foundation we attempt whenever possible to
further Catholic educational opportunities for deserving
families.
We are a privately funded
family (501C3) charitable organization whose Founders
Barbara Bateman Barrett and H. Michael Barrett have
established a living legacy of service to be provided by
them and their children. The vision of Catholic Christian
values they possess was instilled in them by their mothers,
Betty Barrett and Juanita Bateman for whom this Foundation
is named. The Foundation is a thankful response to Almighty
God for the blessings given the Barrett family.
Recognizing the endless
challenges the Church in the modern world faces in caring
for the needs of the needy among us, the Foundation attempts
to respond, in some measure, to the Lord’s call to His
disciples to practice good stewardship by using their
material blessings for the common good and thereby
contribute to building up the Kingdom of God.
Priority is given to Catholic
programs in Middle Tennessee but applications from other
like-minded 501C3 charitable organizations are welcome and
will receive a fair hearing.
Following the models of
Catholic philanthropy already in place, the Barrett-Bateman
Foundation will follow the example provided by other
Catholic organizations that exhibit leadership in advancing
the mission of the Catholic Church in America.
The Board of Trustees meets
quarterly and accepts applications for assistance throughout
the calendar year. Thereafter grants are made each quarter
to applicants deemed meritorious.
